A Case Report of Vocal Cord Paralysis after Endotracheal intubation
Abstract
recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy is an occasional accompaniment of surgery in the nec, particularly thyroidectomy, since the recurrent laryngeal nerve is directly at risk, Vocal cord palsy after operations other than those on the neck or in the
thorax is
rare. However, the literauture supports the possibility that the endotracheal intubation may cause such damage, slthough the majority of reports refer to unilateral vocal cord paalsy. It's causes may be 1) the use of endotracheal tubes with
defective
cuffs, 2) the use of endotracheal tubes with insufficient aeration after gas sterillization, 3) endotracheal intubation during upper respiratory infection.
We report and discuss unilateral vocal cord palsy following endotracheal intubation for general anesthesia.
